Five Little Men in Their Flying Saucers Puppets
When we sing rhymes and songs together I love having some props to use to bring the rhyme to life and to give a little context to the rhyme. Counting Rhymes are really great for creating some puppets to use with your children as you sing along. This week we have some DIY Five Little Men in Their Flying Saucer Puppets that you can make and then use ideal for circle time or rhyme time or even just sing along with your child. Once you have finished with the rhymes use them in a puppet theatre or in play as they will help them with language development as they recall and try and sing the rhymes as well as working on number recognition and counting.
Five Little Men in Their Flying Saucers Rhyme
This is such a simple rhyme and ideal for those children that love anything to do with space.
Five little men in their flying saucers,
Flew round the earth one day!
They looked left and right,
But they didn’t like the sights!
So one man flew away!
Four little men in their flying saucers,
Flew round the earth one day!
They looked left and right,
But they didn’t like the sights!
So one man flew away!
Three little men in their flying saucers,
Flew round the earth one day!
They looked left and right,
But they didn’t like the sights!
So one man flew away!
Two little men in their flying saucers,
Flew round the earth one day!
They looked left and right,
But they didn’t like the sights!
So one man flew away!
One little man in his flying saucer,
Flew round the earth one day!
He looked left and right,
But he didn’t like the sight!
So he flew right away!

How to make your 5 Little Men in Their Flying Saucer Rhyme Time Puppets
- Start by creating a template for your flying saucers. Fold a piece of scrap paper in half and use this to create an oval shape for the flying saucer, a long dome for the cabin of the flying saucer and then roughly draw your little space creature inside.
- Cut out this template.
- Fold some card that will provide a lasting template and place your flying saucer on the edge so that you can create a full flying saucer shape when the card is unfolded.
- Draw around the template and then cut out.
- With the dome shape, paper template draw this onto your scrap card and cut out.
- From the dome cut out your little space alien and then draw around him and cut him out.
- Use your card templates to draw 5 versions of each on different colours of craft foam.
- Using the craft knife cut out your pieces to assemble your flying saucer puppets with little green men inside.
- Start by gluing the dome to the flying saucer.
- Then add some craft foam shapes below the dome to represent crazy buttons that the domes may have.
- Glue the little green man into the dome and then add on 3 wiggly eyes (because all aliens in my mind have more than 2 eyes!)
- With a black marker add in a mouth and nose if you wish.
- Then glue on your large craft stick to the back.
- Repeat till you have 5 little men in their flying saucers.
- On each of the craft sticks write the numbers 1 to 5.
Enjoy and use them in your next sing along sessions with your child and then for play as well.
