DIY Five Little Speckled Frogs Puppets for Rhyme Time
Counting rhymes are a fantastic way to work on numbers and language at the same time and I love using little props with them especially puppets. Puppets allow you to add actions or make the concept of an animal, a number, or an object much more concrete. They also allow you to involve your child in more than just singing along. These Five Little Speckled Frogs Puppets are easy to make and can then be used whilst you sing along to the counting rhyme and then added to the play.

Five Little Speckled Frog Craft Foam Puppets
Equipment Needed
- Pair of Scissors
- Hot Glue Gun
- Self Healing Craft Mat
- Craft Knife
Materials Needed
- Frog Puppet Template if you would like to use this for easy creation or scrap paper to create your own frog
- Larger Craft Sticks
- Googly Eyes
- Green Craft Foam Various colours of green
- Glue for Glue Gun
- black sharpie
Instructions
- Cut out and open up your frog – you now have a frog template. You can if you wish go ahead and create the frog from this template with 1 colour green – if you do this skip to step and draw just around this piece.
- From your template cut out the head shape of your frog.
- Then the legs. Use the paper to draw a card template so that you can reuse them – handy for creating more resources at a later date. Add to this a body template and a stomach template which are ovals that fit inside the legs.
- Cut out your frog pieces from the card.
- On the craft foam draw around each piece 5 times – I used 4 different colours of green.
- Using a craft knife cut out the pieces.
- Then assemble them with a hot glue gun or use some strong glue that will enable them to remain stuck together when children are playing.
- Add on the wiggly eyes.
- Attach the craft stick to the back.
- Using the marker pen add in a mouth, nose holes and some speckles onto the body.
- Then write the numbers 1 to 5 on each of the sticks and use them to count with the Rhyme.
