Dream Snow – brought to you by Frogs Snails and Puppy Dogs Tails
If there is ever an author or illustrator that embodies childhood it’s Eric Carle and today’s posts as part of the Story Book Advent from Frogs Snails and Puppy Dogs Tails introduces the book Dream Snow by Eric Carle to us. Dream Snow with elements of counting in from 1 to 5 is ideal for toddlers and preschoolers especially those that love The Very Hungry Caterpillar and provides a great alternative along a similar theme at this time of the year. As the Farmer in the story dream “It’s almost Christmas, and it hasn’t snowed yet,” – yes it’s our life in the UK (I can’t remember my last white Christmas or even my first!) and goes around his farm with his animals named 1 through to 5 looking after them. He awakes to find his dream of snow is a reality and the animals in the story are revealed with musical accomplishment.
Jaime from Frogs Snails and Puppy Dog Tails introduces the book and creates a beautiful sun catchers based on the illustrations within the story. These are so simple to create – you could easily swap the laminate for some clear plastic from a box in the recycle bin. Creating and bringing stories alive not just around the words on the page but by the illustrations within the book and features of the book help children to realise that the images and activities in the book tell the story as much as the words on the page do. This is a perfect easy to complete Christmas Craft that draws attention to Eric Carle’s illustrations and the way that the books are constructed.
