Olympic Torch Craft

We’re gearing up for another summer of Olympic fun and I couldn’t resist sharing our Olympic Torch Craft which is ideal for toddlers and older kids too. When my kids created this back in 2012 I shared it quickly but with the Olympics here again it’s such an exciting time.

We created the torch on the day that we headed into our town to watch the actual Olympic Torch go through the marina and the kids stood there holding their torch and waving it with their flags at the people carrying the torch in front of them. It’s so easy to make as well.

Materials for your Olympic Torch Craft

White Cardstock (unless you have gold cardstock which would make it really special)
Sticky Tape
Tissue Paper in Red, Orange, and Yellow

How to make your Olympic Torch Craft

This is a GIANT Olympic torch worthy of the name so as I never have large pieces of card stock I stuck 3 pieces of card along the long edge together to create a large piece of cardstock.

We then had fun tearing the tissue paper into strips to create our flames – they are best if they are different widths and lengths as this makes it more realistic. T also got in on the action – she’s starting to love tearing paper and it’s really good for fine motor skills. Once the paper was torn J and I created a cone from the cardstock and had fun sticking tape along the joins so it didn’t unroll.

Once we had the cone shape we used sticky tape to add the tissue paper to the cup to create the flames – we kept adding them until they looked full enough and that was our  torch made.

We headed off to see the torch and had a great time watching it.
