UFO Walk at Rendlesham Suffolk
During Space week I took J and T to Rendlesham Forest which is a Forest Commission Forest in Suffolk and is slightly famous for it’s UFO sightings.
Where is it
Rendlesham forest is located in Suffolk north of Ipswich with Woodbridge and Melton being the nearest local towns. It is easy to find and its signposted from the A12 heading up towards Lowerstoft.
What is there
Rendlesham Forest is a large forest area which is easy to walk through and ideally suited to families. There is a forest centre which has paid parking – during peak season there is manned cabin to pay for the parking where the money goes towards maintaining the forest centre and out of peak season works on a honesty box. At the forest centre there are children’s play areas including slides, a large open space perfect for playing ball games, toilets with baby changing and disabled facilities, a bicycle rental shop which rents out various different sizes of bikes as well as carriages for toddlers to use to attach to the bikes.
From the forest centre you can follow various trails through the forest including the UFO trail, cycle trails, easy and moderate walks.
One of our favourite walks includes a sculpture garden and J’s favourite a Crocodile wooden sculpture. Throughout the forest branches are cut down for children to use to build dens with.
The UFO walk is a slightly longer walk but has little pointers to where the UFO’s have been seen as well as a trail of Aliens to follow.
High Light of the visit
For J this is always the play on the bird sculpture as well as the crocodile.
