The Toddler Olympics – A fun Sports Day for little ones

In celebration of the Olympics and with all our preparations, seeing the torch and creating our own, and our medals it’s time that we had our own Olympiad for Toddlers

Toddler Olympic Games

I asked on the Rainy Day Mum Facebook page what people would include in the Toddler Olympics – ideas ranged from “How fast can we climb up a book shelf” to “Donkey Kicks” and “Distance a piece of spaghetti travels when thrown from a high chair” – however we took a more sporty approach to our games.

throwing game for toddlers

For our first game – we used some of my homemade bean bags and a hula hoop we had a Bean Bag Toss game. They had to stand 1 slab away from the hoop and throw the bags in  – as you can see there may have been a little cheating (bending of the rules) from the toddlers but it didn’t seem to affect the result and some bags still went over and others stayed in the hoop.

spoon and bag race

After Throwing came the Spoon and Bag race – instead of using eggs (we didn’t have any plastic eggs either) a bean bag balanced on a spoon was used. Going from one end of the patio to the other, J, T and F raced each other balancing the bean bag on their spoons.

sticker recording chart

As we finished each event J, T and F choose a coloured star from the sticker sheet and added it to their chart to show the events that they did and at the end of the Olympics they each got to choose a super sticker and wear one of the medals.

Jumping event for toddlers

Next was our jumping event – using the Trampoline they had to jump 20 times – F was great. J just moved the trampoline and T preferred to look at her reflection in the glass but they all had a go at it.

tunnel crawl

The next event was the tunnel crawl – each of them crawled through the tunnel as quickly as they could. It was great to hear them shouting as they went through the tunnel.

Climbing event for Toddlers

Our last event was the Slide Climb (apart from being good for climbing this is also great for turn taking and waiting) plus it’s fun to go down the other side as well.

No Olympics would be complete without a Torch for the Opening Ceremony or a set of medals why not make your own with our DIY Olympic Torch for Kids and Easy Medal Craft for the Olympics.
