The Paper Dolls by Julia Donaldson
If you are a follower on our facebook page you will have seen me share the new book by Julia Donaldson this week on October 12th when it was released. The Paper Dolls
is the latest book from the author of the Gruffalo Julia Donaldson with a new illustrator Rebecca Cobb.
The story is one of a little girl who create a chain of paper dolls with each of their own fun characteristics and quirks, the imagination then flows and the dolls and the little girl take a magical journey around the house and garden. Throughout the book there is a quirky little song that gets repeated which J picked up really quickly and as it appeared he would “sing” it to me about the different characters that the little girl made from the paper doll chain.
Paper dolls are a craft that I remember from my childhood, spending hours with my mum first her cutting them out for me holding hands like the the one on the cover of the book. As I got older I got to cut them out and then dress them in my latest fashion designs. T is a little young for this at the moment but like the girl in the book this is something to pass down to her in the future.
We really love the book as although different than other Julia Donaldson books in our collection it’s a craft related book full of imagination and magical imagery I love the illustrations by Rebecca Cobb and will be looking out for the other books that she has illustrated.
This is a great book to add to your collections and would make a fantastic Christmas present for any young crafter or future Fashion designer as well as Julia Donaldson fans.
If you would like to create some paper chain dolls with your toddler and preschool why not put a seasonal twist on them like Mama Smiles with these paper chain Jack-o-lanterns.

We received this book to review too and I think it’s a wonderful book, it’s perfect. I adore the illustrations, and I’d also recommend Lunchtime, written and illustrated by Rebecca Cobb, it’s a lovely book.
