Summer is a time for many children that the reading habit slips - we tend to think of reading as a indoor getting cosy type of activity but it's so important to keep the reading up over the summer months especially to avoid the "summer slide". So it gives me great pleasure to introduce you to the Summer Readathon with Memetales and PBS.
If you aren't familiar with Memetales it's an online platform for children's book publishers to get seen but more importantly and what I love about it is that it is an e-book reader for children as well. The books in the store can be read online, on mobile devices or even printed off. As well as free books for you to read Memetales contains books that you can purchase and add to your reader on which ever platform you choose. We are using the iPhone App and online depending on where we are and who J and T are with. The books are then available to us where ever we are and we can take our reading with us without always having to take our book box.
The Summer Readathon is a great way to encourage even the youngest readers to join in reading, because of J and T's age we will be reading together but older children would be able to read the books themselves. Over 6 weeks starting on Monday 18th June there will be some books on the Memetales platform that you can "borrow" for that week on the weeks theme as well as bloggers sharing activities and ideas to do based around those books and others on that same theme.
The weeks themes are up on the Memetales how to participate page
Week 1 starting next week is Animals - you can only imagine how excited I am for this week with my background and J and T's love of all things that move.
If you want to find out more and to see the blogs that are sharing activities and ideas to do each week you can look for the #readforgood on Twitter and follow @memetales as well as like them on facebook and follow the pins on pinterest.
Most exciting for us is that we will be one of the blogs sharing ideas each week on the theme - so check back next week for some Animal fun.
Disclaimer - we will get to keep the books that we cover on Memetales however this is something that I would have supported without the compensation and I encourage you to sign up.
