St Patrick’s Day Songs and Rhymes for Toddlers and Preschoolers
By far one of my favourite things when I taught preschool and that I did with me kids was to sit and share some fun songs and rhymes each day. It helps build language skills, develop early literacy and can teach concepts like counting even the first steps in multiplication with skip counting.
These St Patrick’s Day Songs and Rhymes are ideal to sing and then share a book together – check out our selection of St Patrick’s Day Books for Toddlers and Preschoolers for some great inspiration to choose from.
With each rhyme you will find an accompanying video from YouTube to help you sing along together.
5 Little Shamrocks
Based on the rhyme 5 Little Pumpkins this St Patrick’s Day version is a great little one to teach your kids. We made a set of little shamrocks from craft sticks and foam to use as a prop to sing the rhyme and help my little ones to start to recognise the numbers as we sing along. Full instructions for making the St Patrick’s Day Craft Foam Puppets here.
One green shamrock, in the morning dew, Another one sprouted, and then there were two. Two green shamrocks, growing beneath a tree; Another one sprouted, and then there were three.' Three green shamrocks, by the cottage door; Another one sprouted, and then there were four. Four green shamrocks, near a beehive Another one sprouted, and then there were five. Five little shamrocks, bright and emerald green, Think of all the luck these shamrocks will bring.
I’m a Little Leprechaun
Sung to the tune of I’m a little teapot this is a short little song that your preschoolers will love. Why not make up some actions as well.
I'm a little leprechaun Dressed in green; The tiniest man That you ever seen. If you ever catch me, it is told, I'll give you my pot of gold! I’m a little leprechaun Imagine that With my little green boots And my big green hat At the end of the rainbow So, it’s told You will find my pot of gold I'm a little leprechaun Dressed in green, The tiniest man That you have seen. If you ever catch me, so it's told, I'll give you my big pot of gold.
Leprechauns are Matching
Get your kids moving around with this little rhyme it will help expel some of that energy.
Leprechauns are marching round, Marching round, marching round. Leprechauns are marching round, How they love to play!
Repeat the verse but swap our marching for speeding up, slowing down, tiptoeing, jumping around etc… and get your kids moving around and around being little leprechauns.
Five Little Leprechauns Jumping on the Bed
Ohhhh, how we love the rhyme Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed! And this Little Leprechaun version is great for singing on St Patrick’s Day and your kids are bound to know the rhyme as well.
Five little leprechauns jumping on the bed One fell off and bumped his head Mama called the doctor And the doctor said No more leprechauns jumping on the bed Four little leprechauns jumping on the bed One fell off and bumped his head Mama called the doctor And the doctor said, No more leprechauns jumping on the bed Three little leprechauns jumping on the bed One fell off and bumped his head Mama called the doctor And the doctor said, No more leprechauns jumping on the bed Two little leprechauns jumping on the bed One fell off and bumped his head Mama called the doctor And the doctor said, No more leprechauns jumping on the bed One little monkey jumping on the bed One fell off and bumped his head Mama called the doctor And the doctor said, Put those leprechauns right to bed
Have you Seen a Leprechaun?
I love this little one – it’s different so you may have to teach your kids it but what a fantastic little song to sing.
Have you ever seen a leprechaun Little green hat and boots so brown Have you ever seen a leprechaun Can you catch one sneakin' around He's got a secret pot of gold Hiding at the end of a rainbow And you can try to find it but you'll never win Get a four leaf clover and try again Have you ever seen a leprechaun Tiny little trickster from Ireland Have you ever seen a leprechaun Maybe just maybe you can make him your friend
