Sea Turtles

Way before kids my speciality as a marine biologist was sea turtles. I worked in Greece and Costa Rica first with Loggerheads and then with Leatherback Sea Turtles.

I worked in a rescue centre, patrolled beaches and also took part in the education of local communities and visiting tourists to the projects.

These beautiful creatures are fascinating, having changed very little since the time of the dinosaurs they are marine reptiles and spend 90% of their time in the oceans of the world.

How many Species of Sea Turtles Are There?

There are 7 species of sea turtle in the world:

  • The Leatherback
  • Green
  • Loggerhead
  • Hawksbill
  • Flatback
  • Kemp Ridley
  • Olive Ridley

Each of them beautiful and majestic and endangered to some extent because of human threats to them.

This pack contains information generally about sea turtles including the life cycle, body structure as well as information about threats.

There are some flashcards featuring 4 of the species – the leatherback, green, loggerhead and hawksbill. These species are the ones that you are most likely to encounter unless you live in Australia or are very fortunate and see an Arribada!
