We have decided this year now we finally have a lawn in the garden as well as a patio that we’re going to have some summer parties with friends and family. Although I am sure we will have a few Barbeques in that time as my husband does love cooking on our grill more often than not it’s going to be spur of a moment things so I’ve been on the hunt for delicious summer canapes that I can throw together quickly and instead of spending all the time slaving in the kitchen actually sit down and enjoy. So here’s the best I’ve found some really easy Summer Appetisers for last minute entertaining.
Easy Summer Appetisers
So I’m looking at a selection of different appetisers that you can quickly throw together for everyone to enjoy – do watch out though as later in the summer I’ll be sharing some others that make take a little more time to make although equally delicious. Salsa, Dips and Chips
Easy and low on clean up some salsa’s dips and chips are perfect and they are really easy to make so here are a few of my favourites
This is my go-to basis for a salsa it takes a little under 15 minutes to make and I know that I can jazz it up with some peppers and chilli or switch out the corriander for some basil and it will work just as well – check out the full recipe for homemade Fresh Salsa from The Anthony Kitchen
Not so much a traditional salsa but quick and tastes amazing is this Mango Avocado Salsa from The Rising Spoon reminds me a lot of living and travelling in Central America and in a favourite of the kids.
Another really easy salsa to make is this Summer Corn Salsa from Peace but not Quiet perfect for rustling up and serving with some Tortilla Chips.
The store-bought Hummus tastes nothing like freshly made stuff and this recipe for 5-minute hummus from Gathering Dreams is ideal. It tastes just like the stuff served in the Mediterranean and taking only 5 minutes to make is a great idea to keep the ingredients stocked up for when you need a quick dip for guests. Ohhh, and this one is just perfect for serving with some veggies for the kids after school too!
This Rotel with Beef Dip from our friend Kelli at 3 Boys and a Dog went down a hit I loved the mild version the best as I don’t like things too spicy.
Our second favourite dip here is Guacamole and this Easy Guacamole recipe from The Endless Meal is perfect as it tastes delicious and only takes 5 minutes to make.
Make your own Tortilla chips to go with the salsa and dips and with this simple recipe for Baked Tortilla Chips from Baker Mama I can rustle up some in 15 minutes and we always have flour tortillas in the cupboard to make them.
Skewers and Finger Friendly Appetisers
Although serving salads and other appetisers needing plates and cutlery is great I do like making it easy at the end of the gathering as well as when I prepare the food so these skewers and quick finger foods are perfect. Serve on a large plater and let your guests help themselves to these bite-sized appetisers.
I love Caprese salads and these Simple Caprese Salad Skewers from Wholesome Yum are perfect to make in just 15 minutes you can rustle up a platter and it’s an easy way to get the kids to help they can load the skewers.
If you like seafood then these Chorizo and Prawn skewers from Sprinkles and Sprouts don’t take long to make and are perfect for a quick nibble.
Taking around 20 minutes to make these Tuna Mozzarella Stuffed Cherry Tomatoes from An Italian in my Kitchen taste amazing and my Tuna loving daughter asks for me to make them every time.
Our kids love making bruschetta and as we let them create it themselves I just have to cut up the ingredients and add them to some bowls with a french stick cut up and we have a really easy appetiser that then everyone can customise themselves.
I love these Basil Sun-Dried Tomato Pinwheels from Crystal and Co although as I don’t have basil essential oil I switched that out for some fresh basil leaves from the garden.
Simple roll-ups are great for appetisers and these Italian Sub Sandwich Pinwheels from Let’s Dish are easy to make and people are always disappointed when they run out. Taking under 30 minutes to make I can quickly rustle up some more.
Appetisers for Dessert
Once you’ve filled yourself with the savoury it always amazes me how there is that little bit of room for some dessert and these easy dessert appetisers are great for serving to your guests – although of course, they don’t have to be for dessert you can serve them all the time.
Our fruit skewers are really easy to make I peel and chop the fruit and the guests put together their own combinations to enjoy.
Although I often serve just plain yoghurt I’ve found this Cream Cheese Dip from Cookin with Amanda is great I love the tanginess from the cream cheese and it’s perfect to dip our skewers into.
So don’t blame me when this becomes your new favourite dip but it is mine and shhh I’m not going to share it with the kids I just tell them isn’t normal hummus and they leave it alone – but you will want to make it again and again so here it is Chocolate Hummus from Recipes from a Pantry.
