Although I love digital books, and I love flicking through the pictures of the kids on my computer, nothing beats turning pages and looking through a book. As a budding author it can be hard to get an agent to contact the publishing houses and, yes, you may like to go digital, but what about having a proper copy of your book for your shelf as well; and be able to self publish these for sale. Blurb does just that for you, it allows you to self publish books, magazines and journals to print or digital format that you can then either sell via Blurb or Amazon. It’s easy to use, plus the quality is the same as any bookstore.
I am obsessed with cook books (I have shelves filled with them) but ones like my grandmothers hand written recipes, or even scraps and notes from friends are my favourites to flick through. Putting these favourite family recipes together in a word document with or without pictures, using the great selection of fonts on Blurb and self publishing you have a family cook book that you can give to others as a Christmas present, wedding gift or to pass to your own children as a memory from their childhood.
But that’s not all Blurb let’s authors self-publish beautifully illustrated books like A very Clever Shape by Linda Scholes (£16.49) which are available to buy on the website. The book is a lovely poem told with beautiful illustrations and is an inspiration for those children who sit and think they can’t write a story as they have no ideas.
In A Very Clever Shape by Linda Scholes a little boy sits wondering how he will write a story when he has no ideas, no imagination on what to write about and thinks about doodling to get oodles of ideas. A spill of a jar, some bubbles and splodges things that my kids love to do with their art, faces and clothes added to the splodges and the story starts to emerge as he pictures adventures and experiences that these doodles will have, the cities and countries they will visit.
With a fantastic message on helping overcome the writer’s block that many children experience when “made” to write a story for class it will feed their imagination and get them creating as well. A Very Clever Shape would make a great gift if your child is artistic but struggles with coming up with stories as it will inspire them.
Whether you are a budding author that dreams of a published book, or would love to create great value photobooks to share with your family and friends maybe of a far off holiday, a recent wedding or your families lives then Blurb can do it with you. Or if you’re just looking for that special gift that you can’t find anywhere else a book by a budding author can be found in the store that may be perfect for you then check out the Blurb Bookstore.
