Magic Tree House – Books and Activities for Kids

If you are a long-time reader of Rainy Day Mum you will know that we love connecting Books and Activities and have done for years with our Virtual Book Club for Kids. However, this has always focused on preschoolers and toddlers. But, there’s no reason to stop when you kids can read. So for this school year, we have decided to start a new series of Book Based Activities for Kids around The Magic Tree House books for kids from 6 – 9 years old.

When my eldest was progressing with the reading I got really fed up with the Biff and Chip books that the school provided so I asked friends around the world for another series that is good for readers starting on their chapter book journey and the most popular series was The Magic Tree House Books by Mary Pope Osborne.

I quickly bought the first 4 books in a set and we sat down and read them. J loved the adventures and you could see his reading develop as we whizzed through the books.

But, even better it got me thinking as a teacher how I could use them as a starting point for great topic and unit work. Exploring the themes more, learning through activities and connecting across the curriculum.

It’s a few years later and my youngest is now reading them and as she is someone that loves to learn I’ve decided to put our ideas into action and so our Magic Tree House Book Based Activities Series on Rainy Day Mum has been born.

Magic Tree House Book Based Activities

Each fortnight (every 2 weeks) we will feature at least one brand new activity for school kids here on Rainy Day Mum on the theme of the books in their order. So starting off with a Dinosaur Activity for Dinosaurs Before Dark.

At the same time, a team of other bloggers will also be creating activities and resources around the books that you can do as well.

We will be sharing those in our newsletter too!

But first the books, we have found it’s cheaper to buy the books either second hand or to get the sets instead. Below you will find links on the images to Amazon to the first 12 books (that’s what we will cover in the next 24 weeks+) and a box set of the first 28 which will save you lots of buying them individually.
