When we travelled to Walt Disney World back in 2015 one of the things that I was very conscious of is that travelling with 3 girls and 1 boy was that in recent years it appears that Disney has become known for the princesses and yes they are there but there are some very cool none princess activities the highlight being the Jedi Training at Hollywood Studios.
At the time (and I have checked as of May 2016) you can’t book Jedi Training in advance instead it works as first come first served, which means that if this is something that you want to do I really suggest you head over to the Jedi Training Academy signup straight away.
What is Jedi Training Academy
The Jedi Training Academy is for 4 to 12-year-olds and it’s every little Jedi’s dreams they get trained to fight the dark side and then…. Well J got to fight Darth Maull on the Star Wars Stage whilst Darth Vadar fought another young Jedi in the background!
How to sign up
As mentioned Jedi Training Academy works on a first come first served basis the registration booth is found at the Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost between the Indiana Jones Stunt Show and the 50’s Prime Time Cafe. It opens as soon as the park opens so it’s best to either do this on the extra Disney Hours day if you are staying in resort or be there as the doors open and head straight there. Hollywood studio’s has a lot of fantastic shows and rides and we struggled to fit it all in so check out what you want to see before and go with a few different times that you could do.
As you, dash by the maps pick up the show timings and whilst you wait in the queue you can work out what you want. Aso check on the app as they had times for the other shows and events on there.
Once you sign up you will be given a time and receipt as well as told when to return.
What to expect
When you return for your timing your child will be registered and instructed what to do – it does need an adult to stay with them, but there is a bit of waiting so whilst I waited my husband took T off to see her favourite little princess Sofia the first.
J was given a Jedi robe and full instructions were given then the kids were taken out to the training ground in front of the temple to have their training sessions with two Jedi Training Academy teachers. The group was split into two – meaning it was easy to see what individual students were doing and there was a Walt Disney World Photographer on hand to take the pictures which you could see later or like we did attach to the memory maker and download when we got home.
Mid-instruction the doors of the temple open behind and two of the fabulous characters from the dark side appear. From watching shows throughout the day these varied so you can’t guarantee one of the other. Then each Jedi in Training is invited up to fight the dark side, battling with lightsabers to defeat them under the tuition of their Jedi Teachers.
After they defeat the Dark Side the Jedi in Training are given a certificate to show their participation and a badge to say that they attended.
From J’s Point of View
It was really good we got to use a lightsaber and dress up and then Darth Mawl appeared and it was WOW I got to fight there and Mummy and Daddy watched. Next time I want to do it again with my cousin and sister.
