You know what I hate - heading out for the day and within 5 minutes being handed a coat as it's too warm once the kids start running back and then 5 minutes later, having to unpack from the bag I'd brought with me knowing this was going to happen because they are cold. It happens every year in Spring, especially in these early days. Keeping kids warm and cool and getting outside can be a juggling act and with all of the other hats, I juggle it's one less that I really want.
With my youngest being a little fashion conscious the ski fleece that would do the trick as it's warm isn't right to show off to everyone as she pointed out "It's for on the slopes" - yes she's 5 going on 15! and everything else that I had pointed out to her she turned her nose up at it was too boring, too young for me, too old for me, DO YOU WANT ME TO LOOK LIKE EVERYONE ELSE!
My oldest - 6 and a half just wants clothes that are comfortable and let him play around in the mud, frost, ice, the sun, snow (yep all that has happened this week in the UK!) for as long as possible. So easy to wash and quick to dry come up top on my list for him as well as easy to fasten and sort out - fiddly button and tight arms aren't good for him at all!
So when Fat Face a brand that I love brought out fun colourful hoodies and sweaters for kids in their spring range we were over the moon. Featuring campervans and American style numbers - a favourite of my youngest - and sharks and paddle boarding - got the boy there as well we couldn't wait to try them and get outside.
So the kids whilst covered in chicken pox (did you see our natural remedies for dealing with chicken pox earlier this week - keeping busy should be added to the list as well so that's what we tried to do) and us headed out early in the morning for a dog walk in the Frost complete with their new Fat Face hoodies - a pale green furred with campervan motif on the back for T and blue and black fur with a Shark on the back for J and they ran, jumped, played and kept warm. We'd taken the coats with us because it was frosty but they didn't even ask for them once - now those sweaters hang on the bottom of the stairs and are first reached for to head outside over the coats if it looks cold outside.
But Spring is fickle and days with frost and cold can quickly transform into days with the sunshine and in our sheltered vegetable garden where we spend a lot of time, we still need some cover for the kids but not full warmth. But Fat Face has some excellent hoodies and sweaters for those warmer spring days as well - T adores her blue camper van hoodie and is the first thing she picks to wear arriving home from school before heading outside.
So whilst I will still take the coats outside for a little while yet (especially with rain and snow on the horizon still) they will be firmly inside the bag and may never come out. So get outside with the kids this Spring and keep them warm whilst looking good with Fat Face.
