Folded Christmas Tree Cards

It’s getting closer to that time of the year yes the big C Christmas is coming, and without going overboard too early I really want to get some crafts done with the kids to give as gifts and use around the house so we’re counting down to Christmas over the next four weeks with ideas for papercrafts, handmade gifts, recipes and family activities to inspire you. This week we’re bringing you a folded Christmas Tree card that kids with help for the younger ones and independently as they get older (plus you) can have a go at making and it’s so easy to make and create a pretty unique card.

At the end of the post I am joined by some amazing bloggers from Europe sharing paper craft ideas and we invite you to join us with Christmas crafts, recipes and activities for the family and you to do in a seasonal linky which will be live all the way through to January.

Materials needed for Folded Christmas Tree Card

Decorative paper – my kids chose gold sparkly paper
Card stock or a card blank for the base of the card
Scissors
Pencil
Glue
Marker
Seasonal decorative elements – snowflakes, stars etc…
Plate or bowl that fits on your decorative paper to draw around

How to create the folded Christmas Tree Card

Make a simple card blank with card stock if you haven’t got any pre-made card blanks – at this time of the year it’s an essential in the crafting kit as my kids like to make cards for everyone and anyone (I currently have 4 happy unChristmas cards sitting on my bedside table!).

With a plate or bowl draw around the outside, Cut out the circle, then fold in half.

To create the tree you will need a semi circle of the decorative paper.

Lay it down and pick a mark along the straight edge around 1/4 from the side. Fold from this point so that the semi circle overlaps at an angle from the bottom (see the picture below for an explanation).

Press hard along the fold. Repeat the folding till you reach the point at the top of the tree.

Glue the tree onto the front of the card blank, glue between the folds so that it doesn’t flap open and press down – we really like the tacky glue from Baker Ross as it sticks EVERYTHING in our craft box including pompoms and pipe cleaners.

With the tree on the card, add some decorations – I have some snowflakes and stars from a craft kit that we brought out but you could add gliter, sticky stars, or even leave it blank the choice is yours and your childs.

We then added writing to the bottom of the card – with T who is 3 I wrote in pencil and she traced over the letters, whilst she was writing I talked to her about where to start the letters and how to form them correctly.

J who is 5 wrote his words himself at the bottom. Both the cards were then left to dry and they have already been written inside to the intended person.

I love the effect and had a go myself – to create my folded tree I used two different colours of decorative paper, a gold and a silver and followed the cutting through to a semi circle.

Once I had a semi-circle I laid the two colours together and folded to form an alternate layer folded Christmas Tree that I can then attach to a card to send for Christmas this year.
