Easy Monkey Themed Snack for Preschoolers
When we need a snack now (hello post-preschool wobbles), this is my go-to. Apple slices, a spoonful of peanut butter, and a few raisins become grinning monkey faces in minutes. I slice the apples, the kids handle the bananas, and everything’s built faster than the kettle boils. Nut-free? Swap in seed butter and you’re sorted. So here you go my go to preschool snack for my own little monkeys.

Monkey Snack Idea
My little monkeys have always loved making these. We’ve made them after books, crafts and even song time and they are so fun to put together that even your little ones will be able to master it. So here we go my simple monkey snacks to make with your kids.

Ingredients
- 2 medium apples
- 80 g creamy peanut butter (about 1/3 cup / 5 tbsp + 1 tsp)
- 1 banana, cut into 20 slices
- 30 raisins
Equipment: chopping board, small knife (adult), child-safe knife or butter knife, spoon, paper towel/clean tea towel.
How to Put Together your Monkey Snacks
1. Slice apples into 10 thin rounds or wedges. Pat dry so the peanut butter sticks.

2. Spread a thin layer of peanut butter over each apple slice.

3. Nose: place one banana slice at the bottom of each apple slice. Ears: halve the remaining banana slices; add one half to each side.

5. Eyes: press two raisins above the nose; add one raisin on top of the nose.

Kids can help (by age)
- Preschool (3–5): wash and dry apples, help pat slices dry, spread peanut butter with a blunt knife, place banana “nose/ears” and raisin “eyes”.
- Adult jobs: slicing apples; guiding safe knife use for bananas.
Supervision & safety: knives in adult hands; watch for peanut allergies and follow your setting’s nut policy if using these within a classroom or to send to preschool with your child.
Substitutions & variations
Nut-free: sunflower seed butter or pumpkin seed butter.
Swap the “features”: blueberries or mini chocolate chips (US) for eyes; thin pear rounds instead of apples; grape halves for ears (halve or quarter for safety).
Extra crunch: sprinkle a few oats or toasted seeds on the “fur”.
No peanut butter today? Smooth cream cheese or thick Greek-style yoghurt (dollop, then spread) keep cool if packing.
Make-ahead & storage
Best assembled and eaten straight away.
But if you have to prep ahead, slice apples and dip in a mild lemon-water bath (1 tbsp lemon juice to 250 ml water) for 1–2 minutes, pat dry, and refrigerate up to 4 hours. Assemble just before serving.
