Easy Hot Cocoa Gift
This easy hot cocoa gift was inspired by the classic storybook, “The Jolly Christmas Postman.” Cerys introduced me to the book and my family was immediately enraptured. The Jolly Christmas Postman is a delightful story because it allows us to visit so many familiar storybook characters. The “mail” for each character sprinkled throughout the book makes the story a fun interactive experience for children too.
One of the things that stood out to me in the story is how devoted the postman is to delivering each letter. I always admire our own mail carrier’s dedication when I see her delivering packages well after our dinner is over during the busy holiday season.
Since I love to perform random acts of kindness with my children, this story inspired me to perform an act of kindness for our own postman. Actually, she’s a postwoman, but you get the idea.
Something I’ve discovered about random acts of kindness is that the easier they are, the more likely we are to do them! So, this gift idea is super easy but absolutely perfect for the postman or postwoman braving cold, winter weather to deliver our holiday cards and packages.
What’s the best way to warm up after a long winter day? With a steamy cup of hot cocoa, of course! Here’s an easy hot cocoa gift that will brighten the day of your own Jolly Christmas Postman.

Easy Hot Cocoa Gift
If you have kids, you might already have everything you need to create this easy hot cocoa gift. Hot cocoa is one of my kids’ favorite treats on snow days so we always have hot cocoa packets and mini marshmallows in the pantry.
And at the end of November, we buy holiday candies for our advent calendars so we always have extra. The only other thing you need is a mug!
Items Needed:
- Mug
- Hot cocoa packets
- Mini marshmallows (in a small zip-close bag)
- Candy cane
- Wrapped candies in holiday colors
Assembly:
- Place the hot cocoa packets in the mug first, towards the back of the mug, then add the bag of marshmallows.
- Slide the candy cane in between the hot cocoa packets and marshmallows, then gently place the candies on top.
Voila! You have a festive hot cocoa gift that took less than a minute to put together!
Now we just need to make a card to go along with our easy hot cocoa gift. After all, the REAL purpose is to let our mail carriers know how much we appreciate them! Plus, I want to pay homage to The Jolly Christmas Postman that inspired this idea.
