One of the joys of being a mum I have found is the friends that I make through my children and we now regularly have a "Coffee and Cake morning" so when I was asked to review Treat Petite by Fiona Pearce it was perfect for our next Cake meet that I held.
In February we had gone for afternoon tea for a friends very special birthday where we tasted some delicious cakes as part of the afternoon tea tiny versions of some of our favourites. So opening up Petite Treats by Fiona Pearce it was great to see a recipe book dedicated to creating these little specialities without any extra equipment.
Selecting for the 42 different recipes was really tough with sections for Cakes, Pastries, Biscuits (Cookies) and even a section of savoury recipes there is everything to make some perfect little treats for you to share at home. In the end knowing my friends I created a Victoria Sponge and some White Chocolate Mudpie Cupcakes with Berry Buttercream Frosting.
Now I love baking and enjoy making cakes especially but I have a temperamental oven and I'm not always as exact as I should be with recipes but these were very forgiving, with easy to follow instruction and little tips on how to achieve a result similar to the finished article in the book.
My friends are connoisseurs of cakes (well we have "real" cake about every other week) and with mini victoria sponges and the mini white chocolate mudpie cupcakes with a berry buttercream frosting on offer they were the best people to judge how the recipes are. I presented them on a proper cake stand and by the end of the morning all had gone with everyone having 2nd's and 3rds (well they were mini cakes).
I would really recommend this book if you would like to host your own afternoon tea, or even like we are a "Fairy Tea Party" as with the minature versions of classic cakes and treats Petite Treat by Fiona Pearce has recipes that you will find are easy to follow and perfect for everyone.
