Scope UK – a charity for the disabled in the UK is running a campaign this festive season called Keep Us Close and as part of it they have a Make a Christmas Wish, either by going online or getting crafty.
It is shocking the information about families with disabled children – 6 out of every 10 don’t have access to local facilities, some families travel over 100 miles a day to go to school, that adds up and by the end of the school year they could have traveled the length of the UK 7 times, just imagine the costs in fuel, the time spent to do that and the things that families will miss out on as well as the stress that it can cause those in the situations.
The government are writing a new Children and Families bill and Scope are lobbying to get more help for these families, bringing facilities closer to where it’s needed and making it accessible to all. As part of the Keep Us close campaign they are running the Make a Christmas Wish, a tree is going up in Parliament and they are filling it with stars that have been wished upon by you – you can go online and make a wish on a star to place on the tree or you can get crafty and make a wishing star yourself (information at the link above).
We will be getting crafty tomorrow to send our star to place on the tree. I hope you will as well.
