Raiding the Junk Box – London Bus Craft

With snow, now rain we’re having fun raiding the junk modelling box and making some big scale crafts. This time we made a Bus from our boxes.

How you go about making the Cardboard Box Bus

I started off with a cardboard box that I covered with white paper sticking it in place – now you may wonder why cover it in white paper. In the past we have painted straight onto brown cardboard boxes but they have needed a couple of coats of paint to get it looking the colour and have discovered that by covering the box with white paper first hides any design on it and the colours only need painting once.

Then J and T set about painting the bus (yes working together on it – you don’t know how much of a happy Mum I am to see them work together to paint the bus).

Once painted we left it to dry overnight and then I cut out 6 wheels from black card as well as cut out some rectangles of different sizes from the silver mirror card. J and T set about adding them to the bus.

Once the glue was dry the bus was sturdy enough that it provided an indoor it sit and push along bus for J and T to play on. They love their cardboard box bus – I have cut out the bottom so that people can get put inside it now as well.
