There is something about the smell of freshly baked bread dough that I just can’t resist. Whether it’s a homemade pizza in the oven or some burger buns cooling to throw the burgers in once they are cooked it all smells amazing. I also love cooking bread with kids – the pizza dough that we make most weeks is so easy that the kids can throw the ingredients into the bread maker put it on the dough settings and know that in a little over an hour we can make our own pizza for dinner. But, pizza’s not the only bread that you can make with kids, check out these fabulous easy bread recipes perfect for cooking with kids.

Easy Bread Recipes to Cook with Kids
If you are looking for a traditional bread recipe then our Easy Dough is perfect for kids to make, knead and bake. It can be made in a morning and when I had children at home we used to make this every Friday first thing and have the bread for lunch that day.
Occasionally we would switch up the recipe and instead of a loaf of bread, we would make some Hedgehog Rolls. They were great when we were looking at animals that hibernate in the autumn and winter as well as after discovering one waking up in the spring after it’s nap.
The rolls above are delicious but if you want something a little softer and more of a snack then these Homemade Soft Pretzels from Alieen Cooks are ideal and I can tell you the special at the end of the recipe is delicious as a real treat you must try it.
We love making Pizza – our dough recipe is so easy to make as I said above the kids just measure it out now and throw it into the bread machine and then they add their own favourite toppings including my husband and son that have pizza cheese free!!! I know my daughter and I find it strange as well!
Sharing the food is half of the joy of cooking with kids and pull apart bread is one of our regular dinner treats – we make a garlic and sun-dried tomato version whenever we have pasta but I really love the look of this Pull-Apart Pizza Bread from Alieen Cooks perfect for making with the kids.
When the bread is as easy as this you know that it’s going to be perfect for when the kids want to cook Two Ingredient Bread from Danya Banya and believe me – we’ve taken to making this on a weeknight when we want fresh bread but haven’t had time or I forgot to put the bread machine on.
Another recipe of ours that we love to make is Irish Soda Bread – it’s so easy and means if we’ve run out of yeast that we can have some homemade bread for lunch. The kids love it with butter and jam served warm. I love it with some chutney and extra mature cheddar cheese!
The kids love when I switch the loaf of bread for something different in their lunch boxes and one of their favourites to have is pitta bread – last holiday we tried making our own following this recipe for Homemade Pitta Bread from Eats Amazing. It was so easy and tasted delicious.

Delicious sweet bread recipes to cook with kids
My kids love making our cinnamon rolls in the slow cooker – we mix it up the night before in the mixer, roll out the dough and get it all ready for the morning and then whoever is up first switches it on.
If you don’t have a slow cooker you can make them in a bread machine check out this easy Bread Machine Cinnamon Rolls from Happy Hooligans, perfect for cooking with kids.
I know healthy and bread plus sweet tooth shouldn’t really go together but this Chocolate Zucchini Bread from Mom vs the Boys is amazing – after planting a few too many courgette plants last year (6!) this was one of the many recipes that we tried and after I made it myself the first time in secret without telling the kids what was in it they loved it and insisted on making it with me from then on. They can’t wait till this year’s plant grows so that we can enjoy it again.
Although we like to cook from scratch sometimes we just don’t have the time and ingredients so a simple and easy recipe for this Cinnamon Banana Bread from 3 Boys and a Dog is perfect. Because everyone loves it I make sure I keep the essential ingredient in the store cupboard at all times and reorder it as soon as I make this delicious bread.
