Sometimes there is nothing better on a rainy day than snuggling up on the sofa with a tub of popcorn and digging into the archives on Netflix to watch a fun movie together. There are so many great ones to choose from and as rainy day experts here (well we are in England and it does rain a lot here!) we’ve looked through the movies on Netflix and picked our Best Rainy Day Movies available there for kids and you to watch. So pop some corn, snuggle up on the sofa, dim the lights and spend your next rainy day on a movie marathon watching these family favourites.
Best Rainy Day Movies on Netflix for Kids
First is the popular sequel to Cloud with a chance of meatballs – Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 in which the inventor Flint has to save the world from tacodiles, shrimpanzees and some other weird and wonderful animal vegetable hybrids. This is a fun movie that you will laugh your way through and perfect for chasing those rainy day blues away.
One of our family favourites is Shrek and whether you choose Shrek or Shrek 2 you and the kids will love this funny green swamp monster and his fairy tale and nursery rhyme friends. Why not watch them both as they are both available on Netflix to watch.
After picking up the first of these books in the library we couldn’t wait to watch How to Train your Dragon – a rainy day family favourite and one that I don’t mind watching time and time again.
If like us you are a fan of Roald Dahl then the BFG is the movie to watch first. This is a fantastic adaptation of the book and you’ll love the way it brings this classic to life on the screen.
Although we like the new movie, the classic Jumanji with Robin Williams will always hold a place in my heart as a family favourite it was the first none cartoon kids film that I managed to get the whole family to sit down and watch together.
Another favourite of ours are the 2 Spy Kids movies – my daughter loves them because there is a girl in one of the lead roles which makes her happy and my son loves the spy theme to it. I love the gadgets and the laughs too.
When we introduced the kids to Jumanji we started a list of other movies that we couldn’t wait to watch as a family with them from our own childhoods and another one that made the list was the classic Labyrinth – we’ve only just watched that one and although my daughter wasn’t sure about it at first she’s asked to watch it again sometime which to me says that it is a hit.
With both versions of Annie available on Netflix, you can go old school and watch the original followed by the newer version. We love singing along with the songs and my two try and put on a show with their favourite songs and dance movies after we have watched it.
Another Roald Dahl classic that we as a family can watch time and time again is Matilda – we do love this one and if we head off with the tablet stocked up with movies from Netflix for a long plane ride or road trip then this is always on there as requested by both kids.
