Materials Needed for Making the Preschool Math Cards

Prep Needed

  1. Cut out the Clip Cards and the Squirrel
  2. Laminate the cards if you want to make them longer lasting.
  3. Using glue or double-sided sticky tape attach the squirrel to the clothes pin.

Using the Count and Clip Cards For Learning

With your set of math cards made you can get learning with your tots.

  1. Sit with your tot and share the cards.
  2. Pass the cards over and support your child counting the number of acorns on the card.
  3. Then read the numbers and match the number of acorns counted to the correct number.
  4. Let your child place the squirrel by opening the clothes peg.

After the 1 to 1 Activity time, you may want to place the cards in a basket with the book of the week so that your toddlers and preschoolers can use them again and again.

If you have toddlers instead of overwhelming them with so many cards here’s our top tip for using count and clip cards with them.

  • Decide to focus on a smaller set of numbers we recommend 1 – 5 at first and then build up to 10.
  • Share the cards 1 at a time and help them to count the acorns.
  • You could cover the acorns as they count them this will help them avoid counting them again.
