Homemade Cloud Dough Recipe for Toddlers and Preschoolers

Sensory play is a great way for your tots to explore and this sensory bin uses one of our favourite homemade taste safe fillers. Cloud dough is similar to moon sand that you can buy. But just uses 2 ingredients from your kitchen to make taste safe sensory play. So here we go our Cloud Dough Recipe ideal for some indoor “Snow Dough” play when there is no snow around.

Sensory Play With Dough

Dough is one of our favourite sensory materials to use with our toddlers and preschoolers.

From a simple playdough recipe (do check out our edible playdough recipe at the end if your little ones are sensory seekers) to making bread dough and baking cookies.

Cloud dough brings in a different experience as your child interacts with it more like sand than a playdough material.

It appears powdery at first but without adding water you can use it to form different shapes and mould it together so ideal for making your own Snowmen inside the sensory bin.

How to Make Cloud Dough

It really is easy to make!

Just 2 ingredients and both from the kitchen cupboard for some taste safe Sensory Play.

All you are going to need is flour and some oil.

Which flour to use to make DIY “Snow” Dough?

We used a mix of self-raising and plain flour (all purpose). It really didn’t seem to matter which one as both worked just as well.

play opportunities for the cloud dough

We decided that the cloud dough would be a great sensory material to mimic snow, especially where there is no snow.

Some googly eyes, pipe cleaners, craft sticks, felt, foam and pom poms were added to the sensory bin.

Then build some snowmen.

The cloud dough is also great for pouring and mixing so add in some kitchen tools as well.
