Skip counting spider webs

When I was at school many moons ago I remember learning to count in 2’s, 3’s 5’s and 10’s – it may have changed its name to skip counting, but this skill is quite important as between them numbers most of the multiplication tables are covered. So with this weeks year 2/2nd-grade learning being all about spiders we’ve created our own skip counting spider web to work on those numbers and help to memorise them.

When it comes to 10’s we did 2 different exercises. – First we counted in 10’s – 10, 20, 30 etc… and then wiped it off. Now write a number between 1 and 9 on the first spoke and explain that you are going to count in 10’s from this number. We chose 4 so went – 4, 14, 24, 34 etc…

Skip counting is a great way to work towards multiplication tables, as well as skip counting 10 from any number helping to learn some simple math facts that will help with addition and subtraction at a later date.

  1. What a fun way to practice skip counting! I love that you suggest starting at a random number to show kids that skip counting isn’t limited to the basics!
