How to Make these Nutcracker Clothes Peg Craft with Kids

Have child paint the bottom of the clothespin black and set it aside to dry. As you can tell, my son painted his whole clothespin black which is totally fine–a little creative freedom never hurt anyone. To avoid this, you could draw a line on the clothespin so kids can visually see where to stop painting or put a small rubber band along the bottom of the clothespin.

Have child paint the middle of the clothespin red and set it aside to dry. This is the shirt of the Nutcracker.

Have child paint white embellishments on the Nutcrackers shirt and paint a face on the top of the clothespin. Kids could also add hair if they wanted. Set the clothespin aside to dry.

Have child glue a puff ball on the top for the Nutcracker’s hat and set it aside to dry.

Once everything is dry the craft is ready to be played with or you could hot glue a loop of ribbon to the back to make it a Christmas tree ornament. My kid’s love playing with their Nutcracker dolls after we curl up and enjoy story time together. We have also used this story as a great way to introduce ballet, watch the production, and have even tried a few steps or two.
