Paper Plate Christmas Stocking Craft

I’m Helen from Arty Crafty Kids and it’s a pleasure to be contributing to Rainy Day Mum’s first Story Book Advent. As part of the series, we’ve been reading ‘The Night Before Christmas’ and have put together a simple paper plate Christmas stocking craft as an extension to this delightful book!

I adore the build up to Christmas. The decorating, the crafting, the Christmas events and the little family traditions that are forged along the way. On Christmas eve we always sit down together with a glass of milk (mulled wine for the adults!), hang the stockings and read a collection of special books.

The Night Before Christmas is a magical read, that captures the spirit of Christmas. With its whimsical rhymes and beautiful imagery, it’s a heart warming poem that is a must for Christmas eve.

And in the meantime, let’s take a look at this easy paper plate Christmas stocking to get the kids into the festive spirit.

Materials: Paper Plate Christmas Stocking

A White Paper Plate

Red Paint

A Sponge

Cotton Wool Pads or Balls

Sequins

PVA Glue

Scissors

How to Make your Paper Plate Christmas Stocking

Step 1.

Draw a stocking outline onto the paper plate and cut to shape – this is great for developing scissor skills!

Step 2.

Using a sponge, paint the paper plate and leave to dry.

Step 3.

Stick the cotton wool pads onto the top rim of the stocking and add sequins for some extra sparkle.

The simple practice of sticking and cutting is great for developing fine motor skills while the kids are having fun!

And to extend this craft further, the kiddies could have a go at labelling their stockings with their names.
