Natural Orange Flavoured Gummies Recipe

Somewhere over the last year one of the “rules” I set myself as a parent has gone by the wayside and the kids are almost addicted to Gummy style sweets the sourer the better for them. But they send them LOOPY I mean really crazy from bouncing off the walls to aggressive, over emotional and so easily distracted they can’t even focus on listening to us read. But taking the Gummies away or refusing them also causes arguments and tantrums. I’ve seen a couple of videos and searched and search good old google for Gummy recipes and been trying them out to work out what is best and that the kids will eat and like. They’ve enjoyed the trails I can tell you – so far we have this orange flavour Gummies but I’m working on a sour flavour one and a berry one both of which the kids are ok with but they don’t find them sweet enough.

Materials needed for Natural Orange Flavoured Gummies Recipe

A silicon mould – we brought our Lego-Men and Lego-Brick mould at the Lego store this summer but you can get Lego Minifigure Ice Tray and Ice Brick Tray moulds [affiliate link] from Amazon.com or use similar silicone ice moulds to make the gummies in.

Ingredients for Natural Orange Flavoured Gummies Recipe

1 cup of pure not from concentrate orange juice (we used smooth as the trail I did with bits in the kids didn’t like at all)

2 drops of Lemon essential oil or cooking grade lemon flavouring (it can be substituted for 1 tablespoon of freshly squeezed lemon)

3 tablespoon of local honey

3 tablespoons of gelatin or Vegetarian Gelatin (but check the conversion from meat based to your brand usually in the instructions)

Making Natural Orange Flavoured Gummies

Into a pan add the orange juice, lemon essential oil and honey.

Heat until the honey is dissolved in the orange juice.

With the pan still over the heat slowly add the gelatin a little at a time whilst whisking – My top tip is to measure it out into a smaller container that you can get a small teaspoon in and then add it a small sprinkle at a time as you whisk and keep whisking until it is all combined.

Over the heat whisk the mix so that it turns from grainy to a smooth consistency.

If you think that your mix is slightly lumpy then pour the gummy liquid through a sieve to collect any lumps and into a jug (this will make it easier to pour into the trays as well).

Pour the gummy liquid into the trays – best to place them on a baking tray so that you can easily move them.

Put the trays in the fridge for around 30 minutes once the liquid is cool and then pop out and hand over to the kids to enjoy some Natural Orange Flavoured Gummies.

  1. With a house full of boys these area hit! I love the idea of putting them into the Lego molds, my boys will think that is so cool! I also love the way this recipe uses natural sugars for the sweetener! We will be making them in bulk!

  3. I just love your site for simple, kid-friendly recipes! The kids LOVED their gummies and now want me to try different flavored juices like grape and watermelon. 🙂 I, Mom, Love that they are basically natural as opposed to the boxed kind.

    1. Thanks – ohhhh will have to try watermelon that would be such a great flavour for Summer.
