Leaf Art for Preschoolers.

Autumn is finally here and as we walk the dog we can see the leaves changing colour almost before our eyes. For this week’s theme of Leaves for the Virtual Book Club for Kids, we are working on some prewriting practice. This is an activity that is just perfect for this theme and you don’t have to worry what type of leaves you have because I’ve given a handy alternative especially for the more tropical and southern hemisphere readers. So onto our Leaf Art, with prewriting patterns to go with the featured book this week Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert.

Leaf Art Activity for Preschoolers

It was back when I started blogging in 2011 that the leaf art post from The Artful Parent caught my eye and I couldn’t wait to try something similar with my own kids when they were a little older.

Now that they are we set about creating some leaf art but with the purpose of helping to develop writing skills.

Download and print the Prewriting pattern dice (see above for the link).

Cut it out and glue it together – or use double sided sticky tape as this seems to work really well with no time waiting for glue to dry.

  1. Oh these are so pretty – and what a fun way to practice writing skills. I wonder if it would work with chalk pens? We have some lovely bright ones that would look great against the autumn colours around right now. Thanks for joining in with #NaturallyCrafty again 🙂

  2. Oh these are so effective, and a great learning activity.

The finished effect reminds me of aboriginal art. #NaturallyCrafty

  3. I may have to try this with my daughter. She has just started school, my son may join in too but the patterns will most likely be beyond him. Thanks for the ideas!
