It’s never ending is it the Laundry, just as soon as you think you have seen the bottom of the basket the kids arrive home from school, the husband from work and the basket is almost to the top again within a few hours. Keeping on top of it is a challenge that as busy Mums we all face. It amazes me that although our family has doubled in the last 5 and a half years despite the kids being older the laundry seems to get more and more with each passing year. For the last few years I’ve kept a schedule and this has made my life a lot easier as well as a large capacity washing machine that can hold everything that it needs to.
The clothes are never ending and if you’ve read about our experiments with Vanish you will know that whites form a very small part of our Laundry however the amount of darks and coloured clothes but there is always more than just the clothes. To make sure that everything is done and so that I can get help from the kids and husband I keep to the schedule and they bring things down on the days needed. We are very fortunate to have a 9KG washing machine like those from Beko which means that it is big enough to fit in a king sized duvet to wash at home so all of the washing is done here and no visits to the Laundromat to accommodate the larger items.
Each day of the week I do a load at least and that keeps on top of everything and makes sure that we all have clean clothes. When I wash it’s the one household job that I am a little OCD about – I wash, dry, fold and put away all with in the day I hate having laundry hanging around. I’m sharing our schedule to help you keep on top of your laundry as well.
Coloured Wash and Towels Wash – After the weekend I always have a lot of coloured clothes so Sunday evening they all go in and are washed overnight ready to hang out or put in the tumble drier first thing in the morning which after the showers all of the towels go in as well as the bath mats and shower mat. By the end of the day everything is back in place and everyone has fresh clean towels for bath and showers that evening or the next day.
Light coloured wash – whites and light colours all go in together today which as we have pale coloured dish towels get put in as well.
Dark or Coloured Wash – with 4 of us it’s already time for another coloured or dark wash. School and preschool mean that clothes will be covered in paint as well as mud from outdoor play.
Extra’s – Thursday is busy for us so I set it aside for extra’s things like curtains, duvet’s, pillows that don’t need cleaning weekly but do need a clean occasionally.
Colours and Towels – Almost the weekend and time for another colours wash, the colours go in Thursday evening before bed and then out to dry on Friday Morning, then the towels go in and out before the school run and a busy Friday. Having soft clean towels at the weekend is one of the small little luxuries that make weekends.
Bed Sheets – Saturday morning is strip the beds and put then in for a wash, I love the feel of clean sheets.
Extra’s – Ok so if we’ve been out walking then we may have muddy clothes that need a wash or it may be glorious outside and washing all the curtains upstairs is on the cards, but unless it’s an extra Sunday I try and make a no wash day. On Sunday evening the darks/colours go in for a wash for Monday morning but that’s it.
Do you have a schedule of washing that works for you are you a once a week washing day or do you split it up over the week to try and manage it the best you can?
