Dot Marker Art ~ Rainbow Fish

One of our favorite books has been The Rainbow Fish. Recently it was one of the Virtual Book Clubs picks and we did a gross motor activity for it. My youngest asked if we could do another activity for the book.

One of our favorite activities lately has been changing up how we use stencils. My six year old just loves to paint with them. We used some of our favorite stencils for this activity. This rainbow fish is full of lots of fun creativity and fine motor fun.

What you need to create your Dot Marker Art ~ Rainbow Fish

• Melissa & Doug Textured Stencils – Sea Life
• watercolors
• dot markers
• white paper
• green construction paper
• scissors
• glue
• Diecuts with a View 12 inches by 12 inches Solid Glitter Paper Stack
• aluminum foil

How you create your dot marker art ~ rainbowfish

The first step we did was to use the stencil and traced it using watercolors. My youngest picked all the colors she wanted to use. She used purple to trace the fish outline. We let the tracing dry before we started the next step.

Once the watercolor was dry, she picked out the dot markers she wanted to paint the fish. She had fun painting the fish with many different colors.

While our fish dried, she cut out the sea grass for the ocean. She got to pick how tall or small the grass would be. I just told her we might want to grass on the ocean floor for our fish to swim in. She glued the grass on the blue glitter cardstock.

Then she cut out the fish to and glued it on the blue glitter cardstock.

The final step we did was to punch out some aluminum foil to use as our sparkle scales and glue them to our fish.
