DIY Nativity

DIY Nativity Set

We don’t have our own Nativity set yet – just haven’t found the one that we want so I got crafty (yes me not the kids this time as J was at preschool and T napping) and created a quick one.

We have been lucky to receive a package from Baker Ross full of Nativity Goodies and one of the items is a set of Nativity Finger Puppet Kits which I set about making. Following the pictures they were easier to make an older child would easily be able to make them independently (if J was at home I would have been able to make them with him with some support – mainly pulling off the backing as at times that was a little fiddly). The kit is felt and apart from 2 characters all pieces are self adhesive – those 2 I stuck with some PVA glue (Donkey and Angel).

With my 8 figures for the Nativity I set about creating a Stable (Creche) for the characters to go in.

With a cardboard box I unfolded it created a stage by folding the box edge back on it’s self and gluing it together then used the other edge as the roof. To create a thatch roof I used some of that paper that Amazon insist on sending me every time I order books (isn’t it fab for crafting with Thank you Amazon) and cut the edge to make a look of straw.

T then helped me collect some dried leaves from the garden and we glued them to the bottom to create the floor of the stable.

I came downstairs this morning to find J and T with their Nativity Book and the characters singing Christmas Songs and retelling the Nativity story with our DIY Nativity Set.
