Chocolate Playdough To Make at Home

Like our basic no-cook playdough recipe, this chocolate one contains no cream of tartar, just uses ingredients to make that we have in the kitchen and is not made on the stove.

What is the cream of tartar used for in playdough?

The main purpose of the cream of tartar is as a preservative in the playdough.

As we tend to make the playdough and mix it up with lots of different things including painting with it we often don’t store it for very long at all so with no tartar is fine.

The other reason is that it can make it smoother.

But you can have the same effect from adding a bit of glycerin or sunflower oil to the mix as well.
