Rainy Day Mum Sunday, 13th of May 2012 at 07:00:00 AM I took J on a explore of the garden looking at what things have changed. Because we have had rain almost constantly for April we haven’t really seen what has changed that much. But things are moving towards summer new plants are opening and the garden is VERY green all of a sudden (probably to do with the rain).
We took our camera with us and J and I took pictures of things that had changed since our last camera visit. His camera skills are getting better as he’s learnt to wait for the camera to focus and then press the button. We are starting to get some really good [...]
Rainy Day Mum Friday, 11th of May 2012 at 07:00:00 AM We’re taking some of our play outside this week for our exploring outdoors post and playing shops. It’s been a really dreary month so the moment that the sun peaks through the clouds we’re out of the door and enjoying it.
Nana and Z are joining T for this great outdoor play (in fact Nana was the one that started them playing with it). For J’s birthday last year we decided to get him a playhouse for the garden. We got the cheapest that we could find that would last for a little while but without any fancy extra’s [...]

The Marine Conservation Society
You may have heard me talk about my previous life as a Marine Biologist before, this part of my life is still very important to me and the connections with nature that I have from my time studying, and living that lifestyle I want to pass onto J and T. One of the many jobs that I did to get the experience needed to pursue that career was some work with the Environment Agency on their yearly beach surveys looking at the cleanliness of the beaches that I was assigned.
I had an area [...]
Rainy Day Mum Friday, 4th of May 2012 at 07:00:00 AM As our field trip for the 30 days to hands on play we returned to the farm. This is our favourite farm, it’s by my parents and is a rare breeds centre as well as being small enough that J was comfortable walking around it on his own. Well things have changed. I no longer have 1 toddler instead T is walking as well and this time at the farm we took Rainy Day Dad, Nana, J, T and were joined by our Auntie A and Z as well for the first time in almost 2 years.
T is [...]
Rainy Day Mum Thursday, 3rd of May 2012 at 09:00:00 PM So this was really day 12 but as I said yesterday because I couldn’t move let alone drive anywhere we had to swap days over and instead of being some sticky fun we are completing this mission today
It’s a field trip!
So following on from our theme this week of Farms we returned to our favourite farm for some close encounters with the animals.
Joining us for the first time was my nephew Z as well – he’s 4 months older than J and it’s the first time that we have seen him since he was 13 months old (same age [...]
Rainy Day Mum Friday, 27th of April 2012 at 07:00:00 AM We’ve been regularly exploring outdoors since the beginning of the year and it’s been amazing all the things that J has discovered and learnt. But this week there was a real moment of awe and wonder. We visited the sea shore and found seals, lots of shells and star fish amongst other things.

As a teacher one of the big things that was spoken about was creating awe and wonder in children and although I’ve seen it with J – especially the frogs they created wonder it’s always been fleeting and of the moment. However last week [...]
