Blogs that bring books alive

Blogs that Bring Books AliveI love sharing some of my favourite blogs with you at the weekend, and this week I’m sharing blogs that bring books alive. Reading is so important and the earlier you start reading the better, but it’s not always easy to get everyone interested in literacy – one of the ways is to bring books alive with activities, plays ideas, crafts etc….

First off is Sun Hats and Wellie Boots, wrote by another British Author this blog brings alive many of my favourite stories, I’m still drooling over the Gruffalo cupcakes that were made after a gruffalo walk earlier in the spring. As I finished of this post and checked the links I noticed the latest post 10 ways to step inside books.

Pen Pals and picture books is a great site to find out new books and activities to go with them. Written by two friends I discovered this through the kids co-op link party and have been following along ever since. I love some of the book organisation ideas that they have and am always inspired by the activities that they do in relation to the books.

Running a weekly book sharing link up with activities, ideas and book reviews Smiling like Sunshine is one to visit to see what is going on. With Montessori style activities and great ideas I love popping along and see what they have been up to this week.

With a weekly read explore and learn JDaniel4’s Mom is great to visit for book inspired activities and crafts that they do together. I am inspired by the ideas linked up each week and make it a Friday blog to visit for that reason.

A blog for creating life long readers Reading Confetti is brimming with fun ideas to bring books alive. With advice for parents and teaching with books visit regularly to see new ideas for your favourite children’s books.

We are joining in with The Little Book Adventure 2012 on My Little Bookcase a year long adventure into books and reading. So far we have got organised with our books, shared our love of books with others and now this month we are reading spineless books. With book reviews, activities and tips well worth a visit.

Mouse grows, Mouse learns is a new to me blog but I love joining in and reading about the activities and books that they have been reading. Even though J and T are still only Toddlers, it is great to read what books older children are reading and the activities that they do with them.

The Mommy and Me Book Club is a great resource for parents, it has inspired many of 100’s if not 1000’s to set up similar playgroups around the world where each week they focus on a book and have fun doing a huge range of activities based on the book. I love the idea and am constantly inspired by the activities that they do.

Hosting the monthly virtual book club with Mommy and Me Book Club – Toddler Approved is great to find all toddler activities but I especially love the book club. Each book is announced at the beginning of the month and towards the end of the month the linky goes live and you can link up all your activities related to the book. So far we have read together The Easter Egg and The Carrot Seed.

I know I have mentioned them before but The Educators’ Spin On It has two great series for books with activities. The one that I love the most is Cooking the Books – we link up books with our outdoor exploring but I’ve never thought of connecting them with cooking. The other series is Love Books > link at the side which has a huge array of books linked by other blogs with their activities connected as well.

There are so many more and I may have to do… Bringing Books Alive Part II but these are my top 10 what blogs bring books alive for you and your children?
